| The ability to measure accurately
and easily the moisture of a given product on-line, has tremendous benefits for
productivity and quality control. The difficulty has been that the product to be
measured is constantly changing as it moves by a moisture sensor. These changes have
included layer thickness, density, particle size, volatile matter content, color,
and temperature. The Berthold Moisture Analyzer is able to make moisture measurements that have not been able to be made by other technologies. Berthold has two moisture measurement products available, LB356 Microwave Moisture Analyzer and LB350 Neutron Moisture Analyzer. LB356 Microwave Moisture Analyzer Berthold's MICRO-MOIST has been developed for non-contacting accurate on-line determination of the water content of many different materials. The product to be measured can be on a moving belt, in a chute, or in a pipe. The MICRO-MOIST amplifier develops multiple microwave frequencies in wide frequency range. It then sends the microwave signals to a transmitting horn which directs them through the material to be measured and then are collected in a receiving horn on the opposite side, where they are sent back to the amplifier for evaluation. The microprocessor has the unique ability to measure attenuation and/or phase shift for each frequency generated. This results in a very accurate moisture measurement that is negligibly affected by temperature, particle size or volatile matter. Since the measurement is carried out as a transmission measurement, the entire material transmitted will be analyzed which will ensure a representative value even in those cases where the moisture is distributed non-homogeneously. |
