Continuous Level Measurement for Cement Coolers and       Clinkers

Saving money and downtime with Berthold Technologies Radiometric measurement system

 

One of the major challenges in the cement industry is to monitor the process level in the cement kiln coolers and clinkers.

 

Due to the harsh nature of the process materials and the high temperatures involved, contacting , intrusive type probes are not a good solution due to their high maintenance requirements and their susceptibility to breaking off or coating.

 

Along with that are the usual vessel parameters for coolers and clinkers. These will typically include wall thicknesses composed of 9 inches of refractory brick, insulation and 1/2 inch steel in each wall. It is not easy to put contacting probes in these vessels--and its even more costly to replace them due to the harsh and abrasive conditions in these vessels.

With Berthold Technologies highly sensitive and rugged  Sodium Iodide detectors,  low source sizes can typically be used. Calibration is easy .Once the initial calibration has been performed, there is no need for any further action.

The reliability of the measurement is superior and the ruggedly built scintillation detectors will provide years of operating life--without the costly maintenance required by other technologies.

 

A typical Berthold Technologies Continuous Level Measurement system for this application usually consists of a one or two meter continuous level rod detector--whichever meets the measuring range requirements. Tied in with this is a radiometric source and shield  along with an evaluation unit as the operator interface.
