| Berthold Technologies has
announced the approval from the state of Tennessee to market and sell its
surface mounted neutron moisture meter in the United States.
As the world's oldest continuous supplier
to the of Neutron Moisture meters, Berthold Technologies now can offer
several different technology applications to make this very difficult but
important measurement.
Neutron Moisture meters are primarily
used to measure moisture in the Steel industry to monitor such products as
coke, sinter, iron ore and sand. In addition, the product can be used in
other industries where a true non-contacting and non-intrusive solution is
required.
Depending upon customer preference,
application or other considerations, Berthold can offer two distinct types
of neutron moisture measurement. One is an insertion probe in which a very
sensitive neutron detector is inserted inside a well and placed into the
vessel. For customers who require the most sensitive and accurate
measurement, this is the ideal method. The probe is extremely close to the
process material being measured and is not affected by temperature,
pressure, color or ph. The probe itself is placed into a protective dip
tube inserted into the side of a vessel. The measurement is highly
representative of the material-even in large measuring volumes.
If the applications calls for moisture
measurement on a belt or conveyor, and other technologies do not work,
then the LB 350 can make the measurement. The sensor is placed under the
belt or conveyor and transmits a cloud of neutrons which are scattered
back to two Helium 3 detectors. This is one of the most challenging
measurements there is and as with all radiometric applications, and a
filled out application information sheet is required before an offer can
be made.
The approval to sell the surface mount
neutron moisture meter in the US gives Berthold Technologies another
method to perform this most challenging measurement. The surface mount LB
350 is especially applicable in situations where product may fall on to
the dip pipe or high levels of abrasion from falling product may occur.
The surface mount LB 350 contains a lockable shielding which makes it easy
to open and close the source shutter. Using an optional mounting frame
which is installed in an opening in the vessel wall, the LB 350 surface
mount can offer high accuracy with long service life. |
