The LB 3375D-de is the newest
generation of Pickling Acid Analyzers by Berthold Technologies.
This
analyzer continuously measures the acid and iron content of
pickling baths used to remove surface scaling of hot-rolled
carbon steel strip. This on-line control of acid composition
determines the surface quality of the steel strip while
minimizing acid consumption. Excellent correlation with
laboratory values avoids time-consuming sample taking (after
initial calibration). The analyzer is in use on continuous as
well as push-pull lines and the unique dual energy measurement,
patented by Berthold, is
installed in steel mills throughout the World, using
Hydrochloric and Sulfuric acid processes.
After the installation and calibration of the LB
3375D-de,
payback times of less than
12 months are possible as a result of:
-
Eliminating time lags in the laboratory processing of samples
-
Improving the consistency of the resulting surface quality of
the steel
-
Significant reduction of acid disposal costs
-
Reduction of acid consumption
Software and Startup
Communication with the Acid Analyzer is
accomplished through the use of the TouCom Program, which runs
on a touch-screen Industrial PC.
The TouCom Program provides the following
features:
-
Visualization of
process and operational data digitally and graphically
-
Allows necessary user
adjustments of the analyzer
-
Storage of process
data and messages automatically on compact flash card
-
Safe guidance for
taking and documenting reference samples
Repetitive samples of acid are taken over
several days and the times noted. Careful lab analyses are used
to modify the factory default settings of the analyzer (at the
time coincident readings of the analyzer) to establish the
actual calibration constants for the pickling process. Further
lab samples are required infrequently to ensure only that
calibration has been maintained over the long term.
