The SuperSens LB 445 ultra sensitive detector

When only the most sensitive detector will do! Available in both point and continuous level configurations!

    SuperSens Point Level configuration

The detectors LB 4430 and LB 5430 make it easy to reduce the necessary source activity.

Their sensitivity to Gamma radiation is extremely  high; however, this also means that

they are highly sensitive to environmental radiation (background) and its fluctuation. The

Berthold Super Sens detector is equipped with  a lead shielding which significantly reduces interference due to background and its fluctuation. As a result of the lower "background level'

the required "useful signal“, and thus the necessary source activity, can be reduced even further. The combination of high sensitivity and low background allows lowest source activities.

What makes the LB 445 so much more sensitive compared with other scintillation detectors? The LB445 uses a 150mmX150mm specially doped plastic crystal which is designed to detect process material in both tanks and pipes.

Shown above is the standard configuration for a point level system. The SuperSens is mounted opposite the radiometric source  across the vessel. With this configuration, the Super Sens is the right solution for high and low point level applications in thick walled or large diameter vessels.

Compared to a standard Geiger Mueller tube, the SuperSens has a relative sensitivity of 65 times. When compared to a standard sodium iodide detector, the SuperSens is approximately 3 times more sensitive.

Below is a picture of the SuperSens in a continuous level configuration. Using Berthold Technologies' rod source and shielding, the SuperSens  will perform in the most difficult, thick walled applications where other systems will not. The SuperSens is also an outstanding choice for retrofit applications where sources are nearing their half life.

The Super Sens is also a great way to measure the density of process material in very large diameter pipes. Because of the greater sensitivity over more traditional density measurement methods, the SuperSens also allows much lower radiometric source activities to be used.
